Ultra Deluxe @ The Broadway [December 2025]

On December 5th, 2025, I ended up back at The Broadway in Brooklyn. There was a stacked line-up, this time featuring 5 bands. Talon, Belted Sweater, Perennial, Pretty Bitter, and Ultra Deluxe.

So I have an odd history with one of the band members of Ultra Deluxe. Chris Canieso is the drummer for what feels like every band in Brooklyn. I previously saw him with Wifey back in May. I had a short conversation with him on May 1st, and again on May 21st. Now I have changed a lot over the past few months. I told Chris, along with the other bands playing that night, that I had recently come out as trans. I went from being extremely masc-presenting, to somewhat fem presenting 3 weeks later. I was wearing a mask at the last show, but I did make a point to speak to Chris at the end of the night. Somehow, he recognized me as I went up to him after the show to sign the Ultra Deluxe tape I bought. It was really funny going to talk to the girl playing saxophone too. When I asked her to sign the tape she was so taken aback. I think it was the first time she signed anything. All of her friends were there, and they wanted to get a picture of me with her signing it. I really love small shows like this because everything feels so personal. You get to chat with the band members, even buy them drinks, and just have such a good time.

Ultra Deluxe put on a crazy show. I think it's the only time I've ever seen a band whip out a bubble gun and a parachute for people to run under during the set. The energy in the room was something else, and I loved every second of it.
