On August 23rd, 2025, I once again found myself in Bushwick in the backroom of a bar listening to D.I.Y. bands blast some music into my ears. This time featuring Kyler Sane, With Sails Ahead, Great Wide Nothing, and Fall of the Albatross.

Fall of the Albatross is an instrumental band and ended up closing out the night. They really took me by surprise with their energy, and I'm so glad I ended up seeing them. The best part of their set is when the keyboardist pulled out a triangle and asked if anyone wanted to play. The lead singer from Great Wide Nothing grabbed it, and then the drummer of With Sails Ahead ran over to show him how to play it correctly, all while members of the audience were salsa dancing. It perfectly encapsulated what makes this music scene special.
